Notice of requirements for Finders of Property ORS 98.005: Rights and Duties of finder of money or goods
The Department of Public Safety has and maintains Lost and Found property. We store only property of value. To claim an item that you feel is your property, you will need to be able to prove ownership (documents or some type of proof). If that is not possible you will be required to describe the property, date/time it was lost, and location where the property was lost. You will need to come to Public Safety to pick up the property.
By turning property into UOPD, you will lose all rights to claim the property at a later date and time.
Please bring a piece of photo identification or a valid Driver's License with you to the Police Department. We are located at 1319 E. 15th Ave. on the U of O campus during the hours of 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. Contact the front counter and someone will assist you.
Storage Policy: Property that is turned into UOPD that is of little or no value (Clothing, umbrella's, empty backpacks, etc…) will be turned over to the EMU Break. All other lost and found items that are of value will be processes and lodged in our Property Storage cage. We will hold property for a minimum of 30 days after which we properly dispose of the property. Bicycles will be held for a minimum of 90 days, after which they will be donated.
ID Policy: All University of Oregon IDs will be turned in to Photo ID at the EMU. All driver's license will be returned to the Motor Vehicles Dept. where the license came from. Passports and Social Security cards will also be returned to their respective agencies.
Athletic Events: The Department of Athletics turns over any property they find after an athletic event to UOPD. UOPD will process and lodge all property of value for 30 Days after which we will properly dispose of the property.
