Student reports off-campus robbery attempt 2018-04-05

A University of Oregon student reported an attempted robbery from early Thursday morning May 5, in a city alley about three and a half blocks west of UO campus property.

The student reported that she was walking alone between 1:00-1:30 a.m., westbound on E. 14th Alley between Patterson and Ferry streets on the north side of the Central Presbyterian Church, when an unknown man pushed her down from behind and tried to take her purse. She fought back, and the man fled east through the alley.

She described the man as white, about 24 years old with a medium build, between 5-foot-10 and 6-feet tall, with short dark hair, brown or green eyes, beard stubble, a blue zip-front hooded sweatshirt with a design on the back, dark sweat pants, and dark shoes. She described his appearance as generally tidy or well-groomed.

The crime was reported in brief to Eugene Police at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday; since the victim was a student and she did not have time to make a full report at that time, UOPD interviewed the student Thursday evening for the incident details. Eugene Police shared the information with the community in a news release on April 6.

This incident is unresolved and under investigation. Anyone with information related to this or similar incidents should contact EPD at 541-682-5111. Updates when and if available will be posted at police.uoregon.edu. Crimes or concerns on campus can always be reported to UOPD at 541-346-2919.

A reminder: the UO has created a number of off-campus safety resources for students.
