The University of Oregon Community Service Officer program serves the UO Portland campus. Community Service Officers are trained, unarmed, nonsworn members of the University of Oregon Police Department who support the safety and daily operations of the Portland campus.Community Service Officers provide a visible and approachable safety presence for students, employees, residents, and visitors. They work closely with the Portland Director of Campus Safety, UOPD, university departments, and contracted security personnel.
Our Community Service Officers functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Patrolling the Portland campus and student centered areas
- Assisting students, employees, residents, and visitors
- Providing SafeWalk escorts to campus housing, nearby vehicles, and public transit stops
- Supporting building access, lockouts, and access card concerns
- Responding to nonemergency calls for service
- Documenting certain nonemergency incidents and concerns
- Conducting crime prevention and safety outreach
- Assisting with special events
- Monitoring and reporting safety, security, and facility concerns
- Coordinating with UOPD officers and other emergency responders
