In 2019, UOPD Chief Matthew E. Carmichael commissioned PMJ Associates to conduct an independent audit of the University of Oregon Police Department focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Having received the results of the audit the UOPD set out to implement all audit recommendations.
To ensure the project's success, Chief Carmichael will seek nominations for University of Oregon students, faculty and staff to serve on a DEI oversight committee for UOPD. The committee will ensure that UOPD implements the audit recommendations, and will provide specific advice to the chief of police on the topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
This initiative is UOPD's ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and supporting a community policing philosophy that permeates the entire department.
